I called a friend the other day and I could quickly tell that he was feeling down. His speech was slow and quiet. It turns out that an infection had returned and was consuming all his energy and he may have even been feeling a bit sorry for himself. After briefly discussing his ailments, we talked about a mutual friend who was in the hospital and some of the things we had done for him to make him feel better. At the end of the conversation I said in an upbeat voice, “If you need anything, let me know and I’ll be happy to get it for you.” He responded enthusiastically with, “Sounds like a plan!” In just three short minutes, my phone conversation had taken him from feeling down to feeling up and I’m sure it carried over to the rest of his day. So, if you know someone who might be feeling down or living alone, give them a call. You will probably make their day.
