My Weekly Reminder

Over the years, a number of people have asked me, “How do I find my calling–something I can do that gives my life purpose and meaning?”  Each of these people had the idea that finding their calling was like leafing through a catalog and picking something out.  In reality, the only way to find your calling is to throw yourself into something and see how it feels.  If it doesn’t feel just right, try something else–but keep searching until you find it.  Recently, I was watching a television news program that featured a woman who had been raped as a teenager.  Years later, she did some research to find out why young people turned to a life of crime.  The one common thread she found was that they couldn’t read.  Since then, she has dedicated her life to teaching high risk teenagers how to read and thoroughly enjoys what she’s doing.  In her own words, “This is my calling.  This is what I was put on this earth to do.”  The lesson here is that finding your calling is not a spectator sport.  If you engage life fully and take advantage of the opportunities that life throws at you, your calling will appear.

Feedback From Subscribers

On December 19, I received the following emails regarding last The Weekly Reminder on how the best holiday memories are created by the things you do, not the things you buy:

“This was a good one Sir.

                 Happy Holidays to you.”

“Good one.

I agree.  I remember the TIME spent with loved ones more than the gifts.  I’m not big on giving/receiving videos for Christmas, as all we do is watch; not much conversation.  I much prefer games where we can interact, compete, laugh, and have a good time.

                 Happy Holidays!”
