When most people think of Girl Scouts, they visualize smiling young ladies in green uniforms trying to sell them those delicious cookies. When I think of Girl Scouts, I am reminded of one of the songs their leaders teach them from early on. It goes like this, “Make new friends and keep the old. One is silver and the other is gold.” This song says it all regarding what is important in life. Whoever wrote it understood fully what it takes to become successful–you need to continue to build new relationships and you need to do those things necessary to maintain your already established relationships. Remember, you can’t accomplish anything significant all by yourself, you need all the help you can get. Yes, the Girl Scouts have had it right all along.
A Subscriber in Need of Advice
Last week a subscriber sent me the following email:
“A few weeks ago you wrote about following your dreams. What does it mean if I don’t know what my dreams are anymore?
Years ago, I graduated with a degree in Biology (Natural Sciences) and worked for parks and recreation. I loved it, but I couldn’t make enough money to survive. Now I work for a company who sells electrical products and I make enough money to get by (middle class). I’m not dirt poor anymore and the bills are paid. That is a dream in and of itself for me after growing up as a farm kid.
But I don’t know my dream anymore. How do I move to a dream I don’t have anymore? I want to advance in life…I want to move forward…but what is that dream?
You may not have an answer for it, but I appreciate your time. Thank you for you weekly messages. I reflect on each and every one the week it comes in.”
