Respect and Camaraderie: The Keys To Building A Winning Team

Even though they didn’t win the Super Bowl, the Arizona Cardinals are still this year’s amazing sports story.  They went from being one of the perennial laughing stocks of professional football to playling in the Super Bowl in Ken Whisenhunt’s second year as head coach.  Right after they won the game that earned them an appearance in the Super Bowl, a long term Cardinal player who had endured many losing seasons was asked, “What did coach Whisenhunt do differently?”  His answer was, “He gave us two things no other coach had given us–respect and camaraderie.”  Respect means he holds his players in very high regard and camaraderie means he treats them as friends.  This is really nothing new; respect and camaraderie have always been the keys to building a winning team in any aspect of work or life.  Without respect, there can be no camaraderie and without camaraderie, there can be no winning team.  Keep this in mind the next time you find yourself tasked with leading a group of people.
