An Important Life Lesson from a Star College Football Player

Football

Recently, The New York Times ran a feature story about Ohio State University’s Jeremiah Smith, who is currently the top wide receiver in college football. He is also his team’s leader. A reporter recently asked him how he planned to be successful in that role. According to the article he said, “My main focus is to try to make everyone around me better…. That’s what all the greats did.” Notice how he’s not selfishly focusing on making himself better. Instead, he’s unselfishly focused on doing whatever he can to make his supporting cast better. As a result, his supporting cast is going to do whatever it takes to make him a great performer this fall because they see his success as their success. The lesson here is if you want to be successful at something, you don’t focus on yourself. Rather, you focus on making those around you successful and your success will take care of itself.
