The Time to be Happy is now

These can be simple little things…

There’s no time like the present to be happy because the present is all we have. Furthermore, self-indulgent things and experiences don’t make us happy.

Rather, our happiness is the byproduct of the actions we take to make others happy.

These can be simple little things like complementing people on what they’re wearing of something they’ve done, holding the door open for people, listening when someone needs to talk, smiling, or closing off your emails with something cheerful and personal such as, “You are a terrific person. I really appreciate all the wonderful things you do around here.”

I came across the words to a Sunday school song that captures the essence of this source of happiness:

The time to be happy is now
The placed to be happy is here
The way to be happy is to
Make someone happy
And have a little heaven down here

  1. Just want to tell you, that what you are saying in your article, it is rooted on you.
I was sitting beside you in an airplane to argentina, and it surprised me so much when I herd you treating so well the flight attendants, with kindness and complimenting them for their nice job.
II work in customer service, and I am always surprised of how few people have nice things to say, and how many have complaints…..
Hope this blog arrives to many, so we all can be happier making others happy and doesn’t take much, but we need to see further than our own needs.
    Thanks a lot.

    • Dear Cristiana,

Thank you so much for your wonderful comments that you sent me this past October 17 regarding my Weekly Reminder. You mention that what I said about thanking people was “rooted in me.” I have to say that you made my day! I’m sorry it took so long for me to get back to you, but I have been working hard to finish up the book I was working on during that flight. Thank you for being such a wonderful seat mate. I hope all is going well for you and that you have a wonderful 2013. All the best to you,Ross
