Being Able to Admit Our Mistakes is a Hallmark of Success

Mistake

Over the years, I’ve come across a number of people who can’t admit it when they’ve made a mistake. Instead of admitting their mistake and taking responsibility for it, they blame others. They seem to think admitting a mistake is a sign of personal weakness. In reality, being able to admit our mistakes is a sign of strong personal character—people respect and are attracted to those who are able to own up to their mistakes and learn from them. We have to remember that mistakes are our teachers—we learn when we make them. Not being able to admit a mistake is to deny ourselves the opportunity to learn and grow from the experience. It also means that we’re probably going to repeat the same mistake again somewhere in the future. As Winston Churchill once said, “Everyone makes mistakes, but only wise people learn from them.” In other words, being able to admit our mistakes is a hallmark of success.
