We All Get to Decide how Happy We Want to Be

…we must reach out and touch others in grateful, kind and caring ways.

A friend of mine posted a comment on Facebook that went something like, “Everyone gets to decide how happy they want to be because everyone gets to decide how grateful, kind and caring they’re willing to be.” I think this is right-on and it places the responsibility for our happiness squarely in our lap. If we are willing to embrace these three behaviors and incorporate them into the way we live our daily lives, we will experience happiness in abundance. On the other hand, if we’re not willing to do this, we have only ourselves to blame for our unhappiness. As author Denis Waitley put it, “Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.” The lesson here is that we can’t experience happiness if we think only of ourselves; we must reach out and touch others in grateful, kind and caring ways.
