Lacey Holsworth, the eight year old girl with terminal cancer who developed a strong relationship with Adreian Payne, the star player of the Michigan State University men’s basketball team, became this year’s human interest story during the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. Why did the nation take such notice of her? Because she met the adversity life had thrown at her head on with courage and a huge smile. She didn’t whine and she didn’t complain. Instead she sent out words of encouragement to the players on the basketball team and to her “Superman,” Adreian Payne. According to The Detroit News, One of her final posts on Twitter before she died accompanied a picture of her and Adreian Payne. It read, “There is only ONE Superman, I’m so proud of you Adreian.” Because of her courage and her smile, this tiny little girl left an amazing legacy.
