Being Friendly And Cheerful Can Pay Incredible Dividends

This is a wonderful story of one person helping another…

Myra de la Vega is a cashier at a Jewel-Osco in Evanston, IL.  Dan Coyne is a social worker for Chicago Public Schools.  Dan always got in Myra’s checkout line because she was so friendly and cheerful.  One day, Myra looked sick and Dan asked what was wrong.  She said her kidneys were failing and she has started dialysis.  He then offered her one of his healthy kidneys.  At first she said no because she was hoping her sister would be a match.  When that didn’t work out, Dan repeated his offer.  As it turned out, his blood and tissues were a match for her and on March 28, the surgery was performed.  This is a wonderful story of one person helping another, but it probably would never have happened if Myra hadn’t connected with Dan through her friendliness.  This story serves as a great reminder to all of us of the benefits of being friendly and cheerful. – Ross Reck
