A Wonderful Example of the Way Things Should Be

My good friend Nancy, who I went to high school with, posted this wonderful example of kindness on Facebook that I would like to share with you.

“I went to the concert at Weko Beach tonight and I had the greatest experience of kindness from people I didn’t even know. I was sitting on the boardwalk, and these four Mexican couples with several older children were next to me. They had two tables filled with food set up in the sand right next to the boardwalk. One of the women was cutting up bakery sub buns that looked really yummy. As she started to make sandwiches for everyone in her group, she came over to me and said, ‘Would you like a sandwich?’ I said, ‘No, but they look really good. I’m fine, thanks.’ Well, she made me one anyway. OMG was it good—ham, lettuce, tomato, and guacamole. Her husband then asked if I would like a drink? I said, ‘No thanks I have some water.’  When I finished my sandwich, I got up to put my plate in the trash barrel and he took it from me and put it in for me. The woman who made me the sandwich then asked, ‘Would you like some dessert?’ I said, ‘No, you’ve been kind enough already and I’m good.’ Well, she gave me some homemade rice pudding anyway and it was fantastic! So, when they started packing up to leave, I got up and put my arm around her shoulder and asked, ‘When is the next time you’ll be back?’ She laughed and said, ‘Probably next year. We’re from Elgin, Illinois. We came for the day to take family pictures here because your beach and dunes are so lovely. My sister and her husband are visiting from Mexico.’ As they were leaving, her sister came over to me and gave me a hug. She didn’t speak English. What a very nice family and so sweet of them for doing what they did. That was a wonderful experience and I needed that today!”
