The Key to Becoming Really Good at Something is That First Try

Try Something New - Dr. Ross Reck

The first time you try anything; realize that you won’t be very good at it; most people never are. Think about the first time you tried dancing with someone or the first time you stood up in front of a group and made a presentation. You, no doubt, felt awkward, self-conscious, and were probably embarrassed at the way things turned out. But that’s just the way things work. What happened to you is normal. No one is an expert right out of the gun. At the same time, don’t let that stop you from making your first try. Because with each successive try, you’ll get better and better at something and pretty soon you’ll be an expert. Then people will come up to you and ask for advice on how to be successful at what you’ve become so good at. So, the sooner you perform that first try, the sooner you’ll become that expert that other people admire.
