Growth experiences—those journeys into the difficult and unfamiliar—are often challenging and sometimes painful. This is why many people choose to avoid them—they prefer to stay within the friendly confines of their “comfort zone.” Successfully navigating these growth experiences is how we learn and how we strengthen our self-confidence. Once you have succeeded at something that is difficult and unfamiliar, you know you can do it again. So, the next time you are confronted with a similar situation, you will feel confident that you are going to succeed. On the other hand, someone who has avoided venturing off into the difficult and unfamiliar will view the same opportunity with doubt and trepidation. The lesson here is that when growth opportunities come your way, take advantage of them. Yes, you will experience some stress and anxiety, but you will become a more confident, capable, interesting, and resilient person. You will also add a dimension of fun and excitement to your life.
