I subscribe to a newsletter called Napoleon Hill: Yesterday and Today. The most recent issue contained an article titled “The Advantages of the Habit of Going the Extra Mile.” In this article, Mr. Hill listed 12 distinct advantages you gain from regularly going the extra mile. I’d like to share a few of these with you:
- The habit brings the individual to the favorable attention of those who can and will provide opportunities for self-advancement.
- It protects one against the loss of employment when employment is scarce, and places him in a position to command the choicest of jobs.
- It enables one to profit by the law of contrast, since the majority of people do not practice the habit.
What Mr. Hill is saying is that while going the extra mile requires extra effort, you’ll come out a big winner in the end if you’ll do this on a regular basis. If you would like to read the rest of Mr. Hill’s 12 points, please click on this link (PDF).
Dear Mr. Reck,
I have enjoyed your column, especially for its brevity (short and sweet is good). I also admit to ‘adopting” some of your paragraphs as memory joggers to be used later.
Re: Napoleon Hill, I have been a fan for over 35 years, and some years ago acquired a copy of his book, “Law Of Success” which has become a second Bible to me. I highly recommend it.
Keep up the good work!
Best,
George Williams
