My Weekly Reminder

Human beings are prone to worry–we worry about our jobs, the welfare of our loved ones and about our future.  The problem with worrying is that if affects every system in our body in some unhealthy ways.  For example, it raises our blood pressure, increases the risk of heart attack and stroke, causes headaches, backaches, stomache aches and it compromises our immune system–and that’s just mentioning a few.  The problem with worrying is that it solves absolutely nothing so it’s simply not worth all the pain.  As Peace Pilgrim, the American peace activist put it, “If you cannot help worrying, remember that worrying cannot help you either.”  So, the next time you find yourself fretting over something, remember, all the worrying in the world cannot add one second to your life, but it can shorten it by a number of years.  The best advice I have found when it comes to dealing with worrying is contained in the following anonomous quote:  “Set aside half an hour each day to do all your worrying and then take a nap during this period.”
