My Weekly Reminder
One of life’s more interesting paradoxes is this: Almost everyone wants to be a success while almost no one wants to fail. At the same time, it’s the lessons we learn from our failures that pave the way to our successes. Former president, Bill Clinton, provides us with a perfect example of this. In 1978, at the age of 32, he was elected governor of Arkansas. In 1980, he was defeated by a republican. During the next two years he travelled the state asking voters what he did wrong. In 1982 he was again elected governor of Arkansas–a position which he held for the next ten years and used as a spring board for being twice elected president of the United States. He would be the first to tell you that probably none of that success would have occurred had he not been defeated in 1980 and had the chance to learn from his mistakes. As Henry Ford put it: “Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.”
