Over the years, I’ve observed a lot of people who, when things don’t go as planned, become angry, upset or even have a “melt-down.” During the process, they make themselves and everyone them around them miserable. Hey, delays and interruptions are a part of life and it’s always been that way–to expect otherwise is to be grossly naive. I recently experienced a day that was filled with unexpected interruptions. It’s started with my phone not holding a charge. After waiting for more than an hour at the phone store, the technicians finally found the problem and fixed it. When I got home, I found that my phone charger no longer worked, so I needed to go back to the phone store. At this point I said to myself, “Ross, it’s probably going to be one of those days.” So, I took a deep breath, put a smile on my face and said, “I’m going to enjoy this ride!” This didn’t prevent further interruptions from occurring that day such as the two trips to Best Buy when I discovered that my computer didn’t work, but it did make the journey far more pleasant and bearable. On top of that, I met some really wonderful people along the way. So, then next time you begin to experience one of those “days from hell,” you have a choice: you can tighten up and make yourself, and those around you, miserable or you can lighten up and actually enjoy the experience.
