Turning Back Is Not An Option

Craig Wilson of USA Today recently wrote a column titled, ‘You Can’t Turn Back Now…’ He was visiting a friend in a small coastal town in Maine and decided to take a walk. The path he chose was along a cliff overlooking the ocean and turn out to be more challenging than he had anticipated. It was very narrow, steep at times, overgrown and the rocks were wet because it had rained. After he had gone quite a ways up the path, he contemplated the notion of calling it a day and turning back. He then came upon a couple who were returning from the top. “Shall I turn back?” he asked. The man in the couple responded, “You can’t turn back now. You’ve come too far.” As Craig put it, “There are times in life we all want to turn back. Sometimes we do only to realize it was a mistake. We didn’t forge on. We retreated.” He then quoted Brian H. Peterson from The Blossoming of the World: “If there’s no wanting, chances are there won’t be much learning and certainly no arriving.” These are sound words of wisdom.
