I stopped by the meat counter in the grocery store I frequent to get some sliced turkey. As the woman behind the counter sliced the turkey, we had a nice chat about different things. When she handed my order to me, I said, “Make sure you stay nice.” She responded, “No, you stay nice!” She continued, “Most people who come here don’t care about us. They give us their order and don’t even say thank you! But when I see you coming, I get very happy because I know you care. I know you’re going to talk to me, and I know you’re going to say thank you.” She then went on to say, “By the way, my name is Lisa, what’s yours?” I told her my name and then said, “Have a nice day!” She responded, “You have a nice day as well! Love you!” What this incident illustrates is that you don’t have to be smart, beautiful, or perfect to make a difference in someone’s life; all you have to do is care!
