The Friend Paradox

Kindness - Hands

I saw a quote the other day that went something like, “A friend is one of the nicest things you can have and one of the best things you can be.” So, a friend is something you can both have and be at the same time. “To have and to be.” I thought, “This sounds like Shakespeare!” Then I remembered something my parents told me when I was in my early teens, “If you want to have a lot of friends, you first have to be one.” This means you have to be kind. When you are kind, you attract people to you like a magnet. Everyone wants to hang out with kind people. On the other hand, if you are not kind, you are going to be one very lonely person.
