One thing all successful people have in common is they’re tenacious–they’re able to keep working toward their goal in spite of adversity. This is important because rarely to we achieve any kind of major success on the first try; it normally takes lots of tries. In the current issue of Spirit Magazine, Wolfgang Puck, world famous chef and restauranteur was asked to share the secret to his success. He answer was “tenacity.” As Mr. Puck put it, “Tenacity is an important part of business and life. I was 14 when I left my father’s house in Austria. He said, ‘You’re good for nothing. You’re going to be back again.’ I found an apprenticeship in a hotel restaurant, but three weeks in the chef told me I was no good and fired me. But I did not quit. I came back the next day, and the other apprentice put me to work peeling potatoes in the vegetable cellar. Weeks later the chef found out, and the owner sent me to work at another hotel. Even at 14, I did not take no for an answer. Losing was not an option, and having that mind-set worked.” As Mr. Puck’s example shows, tenacity can make all the difference.
Tenacity has many definitions, but quitting is not one of them. Mr. Puck’s story applies to many of us, because you’ll get help from others if you make the effort to help yourself, and, share kindness with others. Looking at your recent posts, your “following” may also experience more happiness, love and enthusiasm, when you share. You’ll also find a job quicker when you’re attitude is that nothing is impossible and you are open to new ideas, not resting on past laurels.
