My Weekly Reminder

One of the things that high performing companies have in common is they care about their employees–big time!  They understand that caring not only energizes people which enables them to work harder, but it comes back in other ways as well.  For example, Costco pays wages and benefits that make most other retailers look like Scrooges.  Wall Street has said over and over that Costco is far too generous to its employees.  Costco CEO, Jim Senegal disagrees.  He says, “Taking good care of your employees is not altruistic, it’s simply good business.”   He goes on to say that, “Paying good wages and benefits are why Costco has extremely low turnover and theft.”  Also, Costco’s customers, who tend to be more affluent than those of its chief competitors, stay loyal because they like the fact that Costco’s low prices don’t come at the workers’ expense.
