When someone smiles at me, it makes me feel better and it puts a smile on my face as well. The same holds true when I smile at someone else. Smiling is a powerful behavior that causes many good things to happen to us. Research has shown that people who smile feel better, look better to others, live longer, are happier, do better in life, have more fulfilling and longer lasting marriages and suffer less stress. Singer and song writer Yoko Ono advocates smiling at ourselves in the mirror at the beginning of each day. She said, “Smile in the mirror. Do that every morning and you’ll start to see a big difference in your life.” If you follow Ms. Ono’s advice, the first thing you’ll discover is that you look better to yourself with a smile on your face than you do without one. This should provide you with the motivation to smile more which will, in turn, result in your leading a happier, healthier and more fulfilling life.
