People Take Notice When You Do the Right Thing

Recently my wife and I were preparing to return to Phoenix from a brief vacation. I had made arrangements for a Yellow Cab to pick us up in front of our building at 7:30 in the morning and take us to the airport. At 7:25 a driver from a competing cab company pulled up next to us and asked us if he could drive us to the airport. I told him I already scheduled a Yellow Cab and he would be there in five minutes. Then he said, “What you’re telling me is that you don’t want this cab.” I said, “No, I don’t because I don’t want to cheat the other driver out of his fare.” At this point the cab driver was not happy. He then abruptly drove about five feet away, stopped and stuck his head out of the window. I thought he was going to yell an obscenity at me. Instead, he said much to my surprise, “You are a very nice man.” Here was a cab driver who was trying to steal a customer from another cab driver and when I refused to go along with it, he recognized that I had done the right thing. I have to say that his comment made my day.
