The process of solving a problem goes more quickly and is far more effective if you are able to keep people and problems separate. As simple as this may sound, it’s difficult for many of us to do because often times we think that the people are the problem, so we attack the package deal. It’s okay to attack the problem with all the passion and vigor you want, but don’t attack the person you’re working with. The minute you attack the other person, he or she becomes defensive and is no longer working with you. Instead, he or she is working against you and now the process of finding a mutually acceptable solution has become long and difficult, if not impossible. So, attack the problem all you want, but discipline yourself to be nice to the person or people you’re working with. If you do this, you will find that the process will go much faster and the solution you come up with will be far better for everyone.
