My Weekly Reminder

U.S. News & World Report recently reported a study that involved 732 medium-sized manufacturing firms located in either the United States or in Europe.  The study attempted to resolve the following debate:  “Does productivity come only at the expense of employee happiness or can companies boost productivity by offering their employees more perks like flexible working hours and better child care?”  The researchers found neither proposition to be true.  What they found instead, according to Nick Bloom, professor of economics at Stanford University, who coauthored the study is, “The way to get the most out of your employees is to treat them well.”  What this means is that if you, as a manager, treat people right, productivity will take care of itself.
