My Weekly Reminder

Do you manage a department, team or sales force where employees routinely underachieve?  If so, would you like to turn your situation around immediately—as in overnight?  In 2006, Jim Leyland, manager of the Detroit Tigers, took a team that had 12 straight losing seasons and put them into the World Series.  What made Mr. Leyland’s feat even more amazing is that he did it with the same players who were on the team the year before and, he made it look easy!  How did he do it?  He went against the grain of conventional business wisdom by motivating his players with trust instead of fear; by treating them with love and respect instead of looking over their shoulders and getting on them when they made mistakes.  He knew that when players trust their leader, they become confident and work becomes fun.  In return, those players gave Jim Leyland their best efforts, day in and day out, throughout the entire season and the results speak for themselves.

Feedback From a Subscriber

This past week, I received the following email from a subscriber who attended one of my Win-Win Negotiation seminars:

“Dr. Reck,

I attended one of your classes offered through ASU.  The class, which included your PRAM Model, has had a greater impact on my professional career as well as my firm than any other class I have attended.  I refer to this model quite often with my people when we feel there is a disconnect with a client.”
