My Weekly Reminder
While reading through some of the hype that preceded the recent NFL draft, the comment I kept seeing over and over was about how many talented players weren’t willing to do the work necessary to take advantage of their talent. That’s such a shame because several years from now, after they’ve matured a bit, those players are going to realize what a fantastic opportunity they squandered and it’s going to haunt them the rest of their lives. The other recurring comment I kept seeing was about those players who were not nearly as talented, but overcame that lack of talent through hard work. As one pundit put it, “This is the stuff that heros are made of.” The lesson here is that if you think you’re not as talented as some of those around you, that’s no reason to give up on your dream. If you’re willing to work hard, you can more than make up the difference. As Mark Grace, the color commentator for the Arizona Diamondbacks said recently, “It doesn’t take any talent to bust your fanny.”
