Growth experiences—those forays into the difficult and unfamiliar—are often challenging and sometimes painful. This is why many people choose to avoid them—they prefer to stay within the friendly confines of their “comfort zone.” Successfully navigating these growth experiences is how we learn and how we strengthen our self-confidence. Once you have succeeded at something that is difficult and unfamiliar, you know you can do it again. So, the next time you are confronted with a similar situation, you will feel confident that you are going to succeed—you will see the glass as half-full. On the other hand, someone who has avoided venturing off into the difficult and unfamiliar will view the same opportunity with doubt and trepidation—they will see the glass as half-empty. The lesson here is that when growth opportunities come your way, take advantage of them! If you do, you will view a lot more glasses as being half-full instead of half-empty.
Re 1/2 full:
My wise young friend reminds me that the fullness of the glass is not as important as is the attitude toward it, and, whether !/2 full or 1/2 empty, the glass can always be refilled. Hang in there.
