My Weekly Reminder

In a recent issue of the Wall Street Journal, Nucor Corporation took out a half-page add to honor Ken Iverson, their former CEO, who passed away in 2002.  According to current CEO, Dan DiMicco, Mr. Iverson believed in delegating his authority by putting decision making into the hands of the people who could make a difference.  He also encouraged his employees to take risks and not fear failure.  As Mr. DiMicco put it:  “A funny thing happens when you demonstrate to your people that you believe in them.  They believe in themselves.  He (Mr. Iverson) gave up a lot of authority to the people who reported to him and, in turn, they felt obligated to make him successful.”
