Failing at Something is the First Step to Becoming really good at it

Even today, most people fear failure. As a result, they are reluctant to try new things. This is unfortunate because failure is the only truly good teacher–we learn nothing from our successes. The most direct route to success is to try something, fail, learn from the failure and keep trying again and again until you succeed. Alexis Ohanian, cofounder of Reddit, the social news and entertainment web site put it this way in a recent article he wrote for USA Today, “True failure is simply giving up and not trying again. To quote Jake, a cartoon dog from Adventure Time, ‘Dude, suckin’ at something is the first step to being sorta good at something.'” What this means is that failure is not something that should be feared because without it, there is no success.

  1. This is so true! Especially in big corporations. It takes a lot of persistence and persuasion to stick to what you believe is the right thing to do, without allowing yourself to give up to outside pressures.

  2. Thanks Ross for the reminder.

another way to look at it….

The journey builds character. Without a few failures along the way the journey would not be very interesting or educational.
