Everything You Want is on the Other Side of Hard

Monty Williams

This is the mantra of Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams. What this means is that success requires a lot of hard work along with commitment and discipline.  A lot of people don’t like to hear this; they’re looking for short-cuts. The problem is there are no short-cuts. This is the bad news! The good news is that there is a way to make “hard” easier. You don’t have to achieve the success you’re looking for over-night—you can do it with baby steps. For example, let’s say you want to lose 20 pounds. If your goal is to lose it in a month, that can seem like a pretty daunting task. But if your goal is to lose it over the course of a year—that’s only one and two-thirds pounds per month. Now that’s very doable for most of us and the result is the same. It still requires hard work, commitment, and discipline, but not nearly as intense as trying to lose all 20 pounds in one month.
