Another Example of Seizing the Opportunity to Make Someone’s Day

Birthday Cake

The following story was sent in by a subscriber in response to a previous Reminder about taking advantage of opportunities to make other people’s days.

She writes: “I belong to a group of women who plan events for retired ladies between the ages of 60 and 90. One event, a museum tour, was divided into several groups. We heard there was a mother and daughter on the same tour but, in a different group from ours, and they were celebrating the mother’s 86th birthday. After the tour, I spotted them at the same restaurant where our group was eating. As it turned out, we were celebrating the birthday of one of the ladies who was in our group. After asking our group, the other two event organizers and I asked the server to cut two more pieces of birthday cake, we took them to their table and everyone sang Happy Birthday. We smiled for hours after that. The mother was so taken with our little gesture of kindness that she has become a member of our organization and has been a joy to have around!”
