“Taking responsibility for your attitude puts you in control of your feelings and thoughts. By expressing your positive attitude, you can make someone’s day, which will make you feel good as well. It’s a Win-Win situation.
For example, I was visiting a friend in California last summer and we went to a mall to buy some groceries. In order to park at the mall, we had to get a parking ticket at the security booth. The lady in the booth greeted my friend, (who was driving) in a quiet and subdued manner, but when I said ‘Hi’ to her in an upbeat tone of voice, she leaned into the car to look at me. She had a big smile on her face by then and seemed happy. We parked the car and did our shopping. On our way out, the same lady made the effort to say ‘Bye’ to us and gave a little wave, and again, looked into the car to make sure that I heard her. She still had a big smile. I was surprised that she remembered me. I realized later that I might have given her a positive emotional boost when I made it a point to greet her. A simple ‘Hi’ in the right tone of voice can be pretty powerful.”
Whenever I’m checking out at a store I look for the person’s name tag and use their name when I speak to them. Hopefullyit brightens their day to be rcognized asa person.
