A friend who is an Uber driver shared the following story on Facebook: “I have a new client named Theresa. She texted me yesterday morning for a ride from the airport to her home that afternoon. It was last-minute and I already had business executive scheduled for pick up at that time. She told me she had mobility issues, was walking with a walker and had 2 pieces of checked luggage that she needed help with. Although I already had scheduled pick up, I really wanted to help her so I reached out to our local network of affiliate drivers to see if I could farm out the trip and get her taken care of, but everyone was booked. I thought about her all day and her difficulty traveling. Later, my business executive’s plane was delayed so he canceled his meeting and our trip. I texted Theresa that I was now free and wanted to pick her up if she hadn’t found a ride. The text didn’t get to her until after she boarded her flight, so I received no response. I then went to a doctor’s appointment. On the way home, I was passing by the airport about 20 minutes before she was scheduled to land, and I was still thinking about her. I pulled over at the airport and decided to wait in the holding lot until she arrived. I waited for her to text me until about 30 minutes after her flight was scheduled to arrive and then sent her a text wishing her the best and headed home. About halfway home I received a call from Theresa. She was at the Uber curb at the airport distraught, lost and not knowing what to do in a zoo of people. I told her I’d turn around and come get her and to meet me at the prearranged curb where there would be fewer people. She said she couldn’t do it due to her mobility issues and lack of help. I found her in that sea of Uber cars and picked her up, helped her get into the car and loaded her luggage. I got her home safe and sound. Not for the fare, but because it mattered. It was all worthwhile when she said to me ‘my knight in shining armor showed up in a tuxedo vest tonight. Thank you.’” My friend’s comment was, “I feel good, Real good. Do something good for someone else today and you’ll feel good, too!”
