Being kind to others does not receive nearly the credit it deserves when it comes to making us happy. The truth is that it’s impossible to be truly happy if you aren’t kind to others. As Harold Kushner put it,” When you carry out acts of kindness you get a wonderful feeling inside. It is as though something inside your body responds and says, yes, this is how I ought to feel.” Acts of kindness usually involve simple things that anyone can do such as smiling at someone you meet on a sidewalk or holding the door open for someone as the enter a building or asking someone how their day is going and then listening to their answer. At the same time, these simple acts can have a profound impact on making yours and the other person’s day better. As Scott Adams put it, “Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end. So, let’s get out there and spread some kindness. It’s what makes the world a better place.
