My wife found this story on a Facebook page called, “I Grew Up in Iowa.” It’s a wonderful story about a kind act performed by the employees of a Hy-Vee bakery. “I just wanted to give a shout out to Wilson Avenue Hy-Vee. I ordered a cake from them earlier this week for my stepdad’s 95th birthday. I told them we would like it decorated with Navy things and maybe some World War II since he served. I went to pick the cake up, and this sweet gal told me that because he was a veteran from World War II and he was turning 95 years old today on July 4th, they did not charge us for the cake, a whole sheet cake, plus they gave him a beautiful flower arrangement and a signed card. I teared up when they gave it to us! Thank you so much Hy-Vee! What a wonderful way to pay tribute to him on his 95th birthday. Thank you again for making his day so special!”
