Carson Palmer is the quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League. Several weeks ago during the last minute of a game, Mr. Palmer threw a 75 yard touchdown pass to win it. This made Mr. Palmer an instant superhero to hundreds of thousands of people. The next morning, he could have stayed in bed resting his sore muscles. Instead, at 7:30 in the morning he delivered a talk at a breakfast for hundreds of homeless people and the working poor at St. Vincent de Paul in downtown Phoenix. The message he delivered was about hope—something these people needed to hear from someone who was their hero as well. There were no television cameras there to capture the event and enhance his public image. Mr. Palmer simply came because he felt it was the right thing to do. Many of us can learn from Mr. Palmer’s example.
