My Weekly Reminder

Often times, people choose to pass on many of the opportunities that life sends their way out of fear–they don’t know where the opportunity is going to take them.  This is unfortunate, because saying “yes” to opporrtunities is part of what it means to live life fully.  Furthermore, not knowing where an opportunity is going to take you is one of the things that makes life exciting.  Former president Dwight D. Eisenhower wanted to quit West Point (pass on an opportunity).  When he phoned his mother to tell her, she said, “Why don’t you stick it out a little longer (take advantage of the opportunity), you never know where it might take you.”  He stuck it out and look where it took him!  The absolute worst that can happen to you if you decide pursue an opportunity is that you’ll conclude, “This just isn’t for me.”  But, at least you know and you got to experience the excitement of finding out.  On the other hand, you could hit “pay dirt” like president Eisenhower, but you’ll never know unless you open the door.

Feedback From Subscribers

On January 10, I received the following emails regarding last week’s Reminder on how finding your calling is not a spectator sport:

“Dear Ross,

I look forward to your Weekly Reminders because they are always to the point. Sometimes I even copy parts of the Reminder into my personal notebook of inspirational thoughts. Please keep them coming!”

“Ross,

Good topic and great advice.

I’ve been wrestling with this issue for a year or two, in preparation for retirement.  I like your suggestion; to just dive in and try different things out.

Thanks.”
