My Weekly Reminder

Negative comments are hurtful.  Whether delivered in person or by email, they almost always ruin people’s days.  When people have their day ruined, their reservoir of positive energy is instantly drained.  Consequently, they are no longer excited about giving their all to their jobs.  Instead of focusing on excellence, they now turn their attention to getting even.  A few people resort to outright sabbotage while most others simply back away and do as little as possible to get by while encouraging others to do the same–all because of one negative comment!  You can imagine the impact on an organization’s productivity and effectiveness if team leaders, supervisors and managers pass out negative comments as a matter of course.  The only people who really benefit from negative comments in your workplace is your competition.  Think about that as you observe the negative comments that get passed around in your workplace.

 Feedback From a Subscriber

Last week, I received the following email from a subscriber:

“Dear Ross,

Thank you for last week’s Reminder.  I have been spending too much time in my office and not enough time with my employees.  Now I’m back out with them every day like I should be.  Thanks again.”
