My Weekly Reminder

Ultimatums are threats of serious consequences to others who choose not to agree with you—we all remember the kid on the playground who, if he didn’t get his way, took his bat and ball and went home.  The problem with ultimatums is that they alienate people—they send a very clear message that you are not a team player, don’t value relationships and care only about yourself.  This is why successful people stay away from using them.  They know they can’t be successful without the help of those around them.  If they alienate these same people, there will be no one left to help them.  So, stay away from ultimatums, the consequences that can come back to you for using them are not worth it.

Feedback From a Subscriber

On May 5, a subscriber from Iowa sent the following email:

“Ross,

Thank you so much for the autographed copy of Revved. My John Deere co-workers purchased the book prior to attending a Win-Win Negotiations class and had you sign it.”
