When someone smiles at me, it makes me feel better and it puts a smile on my face as well. The same holds true when I smile at someone else. Research has shown that there are many benefits associated with smiling. For example, people who smile feel better, look better to others, live longer, are happier, do better in life, have more fulfilling and longer lasting marriages and suffer less stress. Having all these benefits associate with smiling must be the reason that Yoko Ono advocated smiling at ourselves in the mirror at the beginning of each day. She said, “Smile in the mirror. Do that every morning and you’ll start to see a big difference in your life.” Following Ms. Ono’s advice is a great way to tap into the power of a smile which will cause us, as well as those around us, to lead happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives.
