Never Accept Disparaging Remarks about Someone as Facts

I subscribe to an online publication from the Napoleon Hill Foundation called Yesterday and Today. Included in a recent issue was a list of seven rules for being an accurate thinker. One of these rules caught my attention: “Alert yourself immediately when you hear anyone speaking of others in a discourteous or slanderous spirit because this very fact should put you on notice that what you are hearing is BIASED to say the least about it, and it may be out and out misstatements.” The lesson here is: don’t judge another person based on the negative things someone else says about them. Instead, get to know this person yourself and make your own assessment based on the true facts about them. In most cases you’ll find that they are really nice people.
