Baseball legend Stan Musial, who played 22 years for the St. Louis Cardinals Major League baseball team, passed away this week at the age of 92. During his career, he was named the National League’s Most Valuable Player three times, made the All-Star team 24 times and held 55 baseball records when he retired in 1963. Yet through it all, Stan Musial remained a humble person who was nice to everyone–so much so that fans in opposing stadiums couldn’t bring themselves to “boo” him when he came up to bat. In February, 2011 President Barack Obama presented him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom which is America’s highest civilian honor for contributions to society. During the presentation ceremony, President Obama had this to say about Mr. Musial: “Stan remains to this day an icon untarnished, a beloved pillar of the community, a gentleman you’d want your kids to emulate.” We should all strive to go out this way.
