Keep Your Fork

“Keep your fork.”

I was listening to a friend tell a story about attending a luncheon. As the server was bussing his dishes after the main course she said to him, “Keep your fork.” He said that put a smile on his face because the best part of the luncheon–dessert–was yet to come.

This is an excellent mantra for getting through those rough patches which are a normal part of life. When you find yourself in the middle of a negative experience, instead of despairing, take a deep breath and say to yourself, “Hang on to your fork; the best is yet to come.” This will serve to remind you that things always do get better no matter how bad they seem to be at the time.
