Earning Respect
Many people go through life thinking they’re entitled to be respected by those around them and then they whine when they don’t receive it. What these people fail to understand is that respect is not something you’re entitled to, it’s something that must be earned through action. And the quickest way to earn it is to go the extra mile when people don’t expect it–things like staying late at work to help a coworker complete a project, stopping to help someone change a tire in the parking lot or publicly giving someone credit where credit is due. Yes, it takes a little extra effort, but the people whose lives you’ve touched now respect you for what you’ve done. This means they will be saying nothing but good things about you for a long, long time and, if you ever need a favor from one of them, you can be sure the answer will be an enthusiastic yes! There’s also a bonus–you’ll feel really good about yourself for having done these things.
